I will demonstrate the safe updating of the software.
In the video bellow certain assumptions will be made:
1. The old version of the software resides in a “Tools” folder on the desktop.
2. The Back-up folder is also in the Tools folder. It is recommended that the Back-up folder be on an external drive but I used the same folder to ease the demonstration.
3. The software was downloaded on the desktop.
Please adapt the demonstration to your particular set-up
The steps to update the software are:
1. Go to the back-up folder and create a new folder using the current date as the name for this folder.
2. Go to the OLD BioDynamic folder and copy the photo_db folder to the newly created folder inside the back-up folder. If you have a lot of photos inside the database this might take a while.
3. Ensure that the photo_db copied inside the back-up
4. Create a new folder for the NEW version
5. Unpack the new version into this new folder (drag and drop the BioDynamic folder from the ZIP archive into the newly created folder)
6. Go to the OLD folder and copy the photo_db (Right click and select copy)
7. Go to the NEW BioDynamic folder and paste the old data (Right click in an empty area and select paste). A dialog will appear informing you that the photo_db folder already exists and offering you the opportunity to over-write the files. Click “Yes to All”.
8. Check to see if you have you old patients opening in the NEW version.
9. Delete the OLD BioDynamic Folder
10. Enter the folder created for the NEW version and “Cut” the BioDynamic folder (Right-click on the BioDynamic Folder and select Cut)
11. Go into the Tools folder and “Paste” (Right-click in an empty area and select “Paste”
12. Delete the temporary folder created for the new version
13. Enter the BioDynamic folder and check again the old patients.
14. Finish
